This articled ‘Divas on the Run’ takes me back to the beginning of our group learning how to run. It rained every Tuesday and Thursday night for WEEKS when we first started…but everyone turned out in the wet and the dark.
And it’s a great idea to have a goal to aim for – theirs is to take part in a run at Bonita Lakes on 19th May 2012 to raise funds for Autism. Good on you girls!
Perseverance – not speed!
Sunday 19th February was a warm morning – not too hot, with a slight breeze. Several hundred runners gathered for the 16 k, 8 k and 2 mile run. Despite neither my running buddy or a work colleague (who runs like a whippet), being able to make the race, I had decided to go on my own – something I never do!
I met up with runners from different training sessions, and other clubs, and spotted familiar faces in the crowd doing stretching and warm up routines. It’s always a strange mixture of anxiety and a relaxed, sociable atmosphere! Before we know it the starting gun goes off… The ‘undulating’ (yes HILLY) course weaves through picturesque woodland cycle paths near a large lake, and it truly was an enjoyable, if hot and sweaty, run.
And yes, I got another trophy for 2nd place in the 8k run for my age group – which again just proves you don’t have to be fast, just turn up and participate!
